Well with 5k arena points banked and over 50k honor banked for next season I am still having a very tough time deciding which to go to, either Shadow Priest or Disc/Holy Priest.
I have played my pally to high rating with a 5v5 and 2v2 in season 1, got bored, then played my Warlock, high ratings in 2v2 and 3v3, and am still looking as my Warlock to be my main pvper for S3, but I like to have the option of my Priest. He has crap gear now with S2 Shoulders and the Shard of the Virtuous, see below for profile.

My 2v2 partner will be a decked out Rogue with 5k and 75k waiting for season 3 as well.
I want to focus more on 2v2 and 3v3 with the Priest while doing 5v5 with my Warlock and helping friends out with their 2v2 and 3v3 teams.
Now my gut says to stick with Disc/Holy mainly because I already have 2 pieces ready and can go on easily from there with the S3 gear.
Rogue/SP combo though is a very good one atm though and I think we would do well.
Well just wanted to get your quick opinions, I am most likely going to go Disc/Holy, try to convince me to go Shadow

I would definitely go shadow for 2v2 and personally will do so next season. I play hpriest rogue currently and have concluded it is not very viable at the high end. Rogues need to kill something before the cooldowns are over, and a hpriest is not helpful for that.
IMO disc/holy is a 5v5 spec. This is my conclusion after a season of play as a now-fully-geared hpriest.

I was going to make the switch to shadow next season, but it just seems to lack survivability and with 4dps teams having it a little more difficult with PS, I really like the disc build. Hell I have been wanting to go DPS for a while, but it just seems to me that that would be gimp. I will pick up the shadow gear eventually, but I think I will go for the holy gear so I can option between 43/18 and 28/33.
Still want to gear up and try some shadow.... I have only raided(lol) shadow since TBC....
So I personally will be gearing for disc/holy next season.
GL with your choices!
EDIT: oops I focus'd on 5's in my discussion, I do think disc will be deece for 2's and 3's as well though. Still LIke BR though.

My twink is shadow atm, but I planned on going Disc because it sounds so damn awesome.
My cousin is rogue though, so my 2v2 would be disc priest/rogue, but all the people are saying shadow is better ...
I would have to find a resto shammy for 3v3 then I guess, that would work, too. But I really, really wanted to go disc. Damn

I was shadow for s2. I'm going disc for s3.
I liked shadow--- in a lot of situations you can destroy people with it.
My beef with spriests:
sp OOM in any sustained combat with horrible regen. Just casting VT/SWP-- dispel dispel-- MB/SWD will eat up over 25% of your mana in the opening few seconds. (yes with absolution and 3/5 mental agil considering 20/0/41 spec)
sp are the FF target 99% of the time in 5v5 due to lack of an escape mechanism. If you enjoy being stunned 3/4 of the time playing tank you might like sp.
Dispel/cleanse owns your dps-- you almost have to be married to an affliction lock.
What I liked?
Similar physical mitigation as plate 28% from inner fire/armor + 15% from shadow form = 43% mitigation.
The dps train when my dots couldn't be dispelled.. and the first tick from both dots happening exactly as I MB/SWD.
I will miss silence.
Personally I definitely prefer to be disc in the arena... but that's just me. :)

Pretty true. I'm also going disc from shadow (if I dont like it I still have a full S2 set which isnt that big of a downgrade from S3)
Shadow was nice but I feel since alot of classes got buffed it is pretty gimped now. The new rogues n hunters will just tear shadow priests apart. I find for 5s I'm just a dispel bot and a kiter relying heavily on freedom bop and stun resists. Y not go disc? 2v2 and 3v3 as shadow, warrior teams are alot easier then as a healer probably but every team has its counter right (except druid/war lol). And like the other guy said as shadow you rely on a good UA lock fora 3v3 and 5v5 andthat setup made you a war/hunter killer team. With the new buff to PS and the overall burst of hunter and rogues, a SP/UA lock won't be able to stay alive long enough to burst down their target.
I hope SP gets a buff, all it needs is an escape mech really

Going Shadow ----> Disc. There is a rogue or hunter on most teams. I can see SP's dieing extremely fast now against any 5vs5 team with a hunter. It was already bad enough having absolutely no defenses against a mace rogue.
I will be picking up my healing gear tomorrow and respeccing soon after.

Same here, also going shadow --> disc.
Played with an Affliction WL in S2 who will also respec to SL for S3.

I had some tests today, playing disc + rogue, and I can say:
BOY, does this rock.
I play my priest aggressively, like healing only after the first opponent goes down (against priests or paladins, for instance). I spam dispell and do some damage with mindblast and SW:D, SW:P. So far, paladin+warrior was kinda the easiest thing for us, priest+warrior actually caused more trouble.
Coming from a shadow priest background, this playstyle has benefitted us alot, cause with pain supression, my rogue being prep and me having a lot of resilience (494 in about 2 weeks), we are not gonna go down fast. This might change against rogue teams and will definitely change against warlock teams, but it still feels good to play rush down style as a healer.
So far, my choice wasn't bad at all

I am another shadow priest making the change to disc this season.
My issue was simply the viability of a shadow priest in any bracket besides 2v2, of which I really do not play as much. In 3s there are a few combos that work but not enough variety, and to be honest I can't find the players to make them work.
My big beef with shadow is in 5s where I spend most my time in arenas. Personally I feel there will be an ending to the 4 dps teams this season. I played a 4dps to over 2300 in S2, but once disc priest got pain suppression buff we started to struggle. The Warrior/Ele Shammy/Ice Mage/Disc Priest/Pally combo absolutely dominated us. Every Pally/priest team would just chain Bop/PS on the focus. I still think that some 4dps can get high up in the ratings, but not like they used to. And in my opinion there is no room for a shadow priest in a 3dps 5v5 team.
