Resto Shamans: viable without pve gear?

I'm thinking about leveling up a resto shaman for pvp, but I have a few questions.

Most resto shamans I see in 2300+ are decked out in pve gear; is the class viable at all without the supplementary healing and regen from Black Temple gear?

I don't see any healing class viable without a lot of PvP gear. Even paladins and druids have issues surviving without high resilience/stamina, and a resto shaman whose ES would get spam-dispelled will go down like a wet towel if he lacks the stats. Think about it, you'd be a mail wearing class with a shield.

Plus, with the new mana tide and water shield, your mana should be pretty good.

PvE gear is very powerful.

As what you gain from pvp is res which to a point is nice but not needed.

Pallys are better off in 2piece merc and full pve or just plan for pve if they can reach 10k life

same is for shamans but i would have a min of 10.5k if i did full pve, i cant because of raiding. This is also dependent on bracket, and what you run.

Druids and priest need the pvp gear because of the armor difference, but they too can have pve gear to help them out such as rings and cloaks.


PvE gear can be very very powerfull and has made many many times higher then what they should be because of a healer never going oom or a hunter hitting twice as hard as a full merc.

Browsing geekboys you can find a number of resto shaman with no raid gear at 2500+.

Of course they may just be an exception to the rule since I haven't exactly looked at a large sample, heh. But it's certainly possible. The difficulty in comparison is questionable though.

I prefer to use full pvp gear instead of my pve gear(some hyjal items and t5 loot) because the other team goes for me quite alot

I got to 2296 in 2v2 with no pve gear but i think if i had a bit of pve gear i could do better

I'd love to have some pve gear, a little more healing and regen would go a long way towards helping my team win. I do alright for myself without it, though

meh depends on the bracket and combo you run.

Having a shadow priest i rarely get target other then CC, so pve gear with mixed pvp be great. Has for my 3's pvp gear with like pve rings BT grade and what not be great to have.

Like the new shield from ZA be sweet to get, if it ever dropped, same with the zuljin MP5 trinket.

Its just finding balance
