View Full Version : Swords / Maces
Orc rogue, 401 resil, 18-43 swords
Currently my 3v3 and 2v2 teams range from lower to mid 1900s. I'm running a Holy priest / rogue 2v2 and rogue, priest, Frost mage 3v3 setup. My questions is, is it worth dropping my S2 swords to pick up the T3 smithing mace, S2 mace offhand. Me and the crew are really looking to break the 2k barrier within the next couple weeks and i dont want be the one holding the team back with inferior weapons. Also Ruin isnt exactly the easiest battlegroup so i'm wondering if me switching to maces will give us the extra push we need to break 2k.
Any input is usefull but preferably i'd like to hear a high rated rogue's opinion on the matter.

In smaller brackets, stuns go a longer way than DPS. I'd switch to mace.
I run a warlock/holy priest combo in 3v3, which is pretty similar to yours, and what I have noticed that after hitting 10k life and 3xx resilience, I started valuing offensive stats more than stam/resil. Especially, since in such team a rogue seldom gets focus fired, you can as well equip a few pieces of PvE gear to boost your killing speed. Since you have high resilience, you might consider adjusting your socketing to allow more offense (20 ap, 10 crit gems).
As for the weapon choice - since you're not 4/5 merc gladiator yet, I'd say get the set bonus before spending those points on another off hand. Mace certainly are superior to swords (I've been swords in season 1), especially in lower brackets. The proc is quite frequent, and I'd pick a 1.5-3 sec stun over 400-900 dmg any day of the week. If the future nerfbat doesn't affect rogue mace spec, I see myself going maces into season3 as well.
On a side note - I don't think double mongoose is such a good choice for arena. I've had myself disarmed by warriors/rogues a few times too many to let my off hand be unchained. This is mainly for 2v2 though, in 3v3/5v5 you probably won't get disarmed by warriors.
Maces are superior to swords in every way and in every bracket.
Currently, every rogue I know/see in 5v5 that has great success is running in a 4dps lineup. In 4dps, the stuns are very valuable to locking down a target and keeping them in LOS from your ranged DPS. Also, if u use a mod like classtimers, you can have all of your stuns (cs/ks/mace procs) shown to you. It is very handy for extending stunlocks in the case that you get a mace stun inbetween your CS/KS.
Also, in 2v2 and 3v3 mace procs are a god send against BoF. I can't tell you how many times an auto swing procs a mace stun which gives me those extra few seconds I need for KS to come off cooldown.
If possible, get 2 offhands, one for mongoose and one for weapon chain. The extra mongoose is fantastic against teams that don't run war/rogue. Also, it is worthwhile to use mongoosex2 in 5v5 against virtually any lineup assuming you run 4dps. The likelyhood of being disarmed is quite low in 5s. In fact, I would only use weapon chain against the highest rated teams that focus fire you early and are observant enough to see that you are running mongoosex2.
