2.3 elemental shaman report

I've been thinking of switching from resto to elemental for season 3 while keeping a decent resto set for 2s and 3s. I was wondering what some of the higher rated elemental shamans on the boards think of the new changes, and how it has afected their play and performance.

actually, since I was specced into unrelenting storms rather than lightning overload (being on a 2345 team) I really like the changes. Here is what has happened to me-
Increased dps by about 11%
the annoying-ness that is getting a pet on you and shutting you down is over
watershield=god
chaotic skyfire diamond is awesome


I dont know, it was really a great patch overall for a 2345 shaman.

I'm pretty pleased with this patch, if I get lucky on LO then we have Lightning Bolts wreak havoc all over the screen.
New Watershield + Clearcast + reduced mana costs is awesome too, I have to drink much less frequently than before.
And at least the awesome set bonus; I can finally cast a LB without being pushed back to 5 sec cast by some friggin Ice Lance spamming git.

Gotta love farming now, barrage of bolts and mobs drop dead where they stood at.

Still feels like LO is only 5% to me :/, but the new set bonus is badass.

I'm done with PvP on my shaman. Maybe a GIB 3's team is about all I'll do next season. I didn't realize the grounding totem nerf was so fucking huge till I tried it.

Till they reverse that, I'm done.

Elemental shaman I play with seems very happy with his DPS and with the water shield change. He feels he has been buffed overall.

Let's just say this. Before this patch it was painful going out and solo pvping as an ele shaman. Since this patch I actually feel like I am able to come out of situations I wouldnt of been able to before. A lot of it has to do with the fact that i dumped unrelenting storm and picked up 3 points into elemental warding and shields. The water shield changes are what enabled me to do so.

Our new 4 piece bonus is solid now and allows me to still output dps when something is on me. Not to mention LO is very nice, much better than I thought it would be(mostly because i played with it a decent amount on ptr before the last push and was very dissapointed).

All in all our class is much more solid all around and smaller scale pvp is more doable. We still need some small tweaks in certain departments, but for the time being I won't complain.


We just started a new 3v3 team this week and we won matches that just would not of happened in 2.2 For the most part I felt useless in 3s and while I don't think we will see tons of shaman in the top teams in this bracket at least it's better. I was extremely surprised to have a 78% win loss to 2100 range. We will see how next week goes.

In 5v5 we feel pretty much the same overall and gameplay hasn't changed too drastically in that department.

I agree the grounding totem change was pretty brutal and not needed. Personally I haven't felt it was game breaking yet. We shall see though

The water shield buff is simply amazing, I actually managed to survive more than 25 minutes against an SL specced warlock in 2v2 (both partners down) while oom. ofc we still lost 20+ points, but i FRUSTRATED him, priceless.
The set bonus is very nice also, especially against these damn pets.
The grounding totem nerf is HUUUUGE.

overall I'd say this patch didn't change anything. Ele Sham is still very strong in 5s, and very poor in 3s-2s. Water shield, grounding totem, and other 'minor' tweaks won't change anything to that. In order to make mages/hunters/esham/etc useful in 2s and 3s, the entire LoS mechanism needs to be revisited anyway.

The water shield buff is absolutely amazing. Water shield was very good before the buff, it is excellent now.

As for elemental dps, I'm not noticing any less damage on my bolts, and the new LO adds a TON to my damage and burst.

For the amount of crying the shaman forums saw this ended up being a very good patch for us IMO.
