What Rank of Roots does everyone use?

Is there any reason to use max rank of Roots or NG?

Switching to Rank 1 roots would be a saving of 110 mana per cast. Which would add up to THOUSANDS of mana over the course of a long encounter.

Is there any reason NOT to do this? I guess with the new +dmg coeffiecents the damage might be significant now... But I doubt it...

Thoughts?

No there isn't. It's 10 seconds duration at best no matter which rank used and they don't break earlier. Any other answer from that one I hereby officially declare a myth.

If you use rank 1 roots you also have to use rank 1 nature's grasp, otherwise you will have issues chaining them.

Using both r1 roots and NG, saves me some gold for training NG each time I respec too ;p Also rank 1 hibernate.

If you cast max rank NG and someone procs it, then you try to cast Rank1 roots on the target in order to root them again, it'll give you a "there is a more powerful spell active" message. I assume that's what he's talking about... although I've personally never had a problem with this, probably because more often than not NG is an escape move and I'm not standing around to root after its run its duration.

Yeah you're usually better off following a NG roots with a cyclone anyway, since (assuming cyclone is not on DR) cyclone will last a second longer anyway.

True, but usually isn't always. There are situations where you want to maximize the lockout and that is best done by NG->roots->roots->cyclone->cyclone. Going NG->cyclone->roots->roots gives your opponent a small opening between the cyclone and the roots.

Also, if you presume that r1 roots don't break earlier then there is no reason not to use r1 NG since the damage doesn't really make a difference.

Can you give me a situation where casting a 3rd roots (for what, 2.5 seconds?) is better than casting cyclone or just running behind a pillar?

You presume that the warrior is on me. Which is probably be true in 2v2 but not neccessarily in 5v5. If I NG root him and then run he will probably turn around and get on the priest instead. Also, I might not be able to run at all since my teammates need healing and LoSing the warrior would mean LoSing them as well. So it sometimes pays to stack the maximum number of CCs. It may not be a common scenario, but it well outweighs the little extra damage a max rank NG does.
