Hey there, I was just wondering some specific mage mechanics
1. In regards to the +hit% talent in the first tier of arcane, does this actually do anything for pvp assuming your already have enough spell hit for 3%? E.g: help overcome the silence reduction talent that priests have?
2. If and how does the -negative crit chance to be crit from molten armour stack with resilence?
3. Spell penetration is pretty useless and shouldn't be chosen unless no other viable option. Confirm / Deny
4. I play in Australia with like 500-600ms, how much of a % increase in dmg do you estimate ill recieve from the new client/server lag changes, if any at all?
that is all, ta

1) No, I am 99% sure this is worthless if you are pure PvP.
2) Only damage reduction caps at 25%, there is no limit on crit chance reduction.
3) Agreed.
4) Frostbolt casts from 3.0 sec -> 2.5 sec will mean ~20% increase in damage if you are spamming frostbolt. Unfortunately that isn't usually the case so it's hard to say how much your damage will increase, but your effectiveness as a whole should increase greatly.
3) I plan on getting the staff and penetration wand to sub in for killing felhunters but otherwise its useless

How about a follow up question.
If you're maxed out at 3% hit, why wouldn't you get the penetration staff as a main weapon and not swap out at all?
Also, I thought arcane focus helped against sheeping CloS rogues...but I could be wrong.

1. I'm pretty sure the +10% hit talent helps with counterspells; many classes gain +chance to resist interupt effects when healing.
3. You should take +20 spell penetration on cloak, and the +penetration talent is nice too. However, I wouldn't actually socket any penetration or take any gear with more than 10 or so penetration on it.
However, with the new gladiator spell pen gear coming next season, a few pieces will be very useful for mages, such as the staff and wand.

Ok guys, I'm no mage, but trying to help out. Lord help us all :) But she is a frost mage and trying to decide between the two wands. Is the spell penetration worth it or the extra damage? She got the spell penetration on her cloak and will do that in S3 as well.
So, which wand would you go with?

Mages should probably take the spell pen wand; it's a lot of spell pen, and it's extremely helpful vs any team with a paladin/warlock on it.

All +hit effects work to negate +resist effects.
This means that it increases the chance to work against the Priest talent Unbreakable Will, for example, which increases Silence resistance by 15%.
It does not, however, work against the Priest talent Martyrdom, which increases interrupt resistance by 20%, because that kind of thing is handled like dispel resists, and cannot be prevented or counteracted.
To give you some more applications, you'll also see an increased chance to land Arcane spells on a CloSing Rogue, increased chance to hit with Arcane Explosion on Druids, Rogues and Hunter pets with AOE avoidance talents, increased chance to hit against Druids with the Balance of Power talent, etc.
