A short guide to resto shamans! People feel free to add/comment and I'll update/edit the post accordingly!

1) If you're with a warrior use your first rank of Windfury Totem saves you a lot of mana, and all they really care about is the extra swing, not the attack power.

2) Know when to use which heal! I know this seems obvious but there is a big difference in mana effiency between HW and LHW; start casting early so you can use HW instead and cancel if the heal isn't really needed.

3) Chain heal is gimp-- yes, even in 5v5s. People are too far spread for it to always bounce.

4) Know who to set as your focus. Sometimes (especially in 2s and 3s) its more important to interrupt the sheep the mage is castinng than the heal the priest is casting because we can't cleanse a sheep. Or to purge that bubble rather than interrupt the heal.

5) Stoneclaw totem actually taunts pets off you. Use it! (Doesn't seem to always work, but it does sometimes so its worth a shot!)

6) Know your teammates! This is a general tip to anyone really, but understand who is doing what and where. Keeping in range and LOS of your team is just as much your job as it is theirs! Also know who is prone to be focus fired and who has better escape/damage mitigation mechanisms if multiple people are taking damage.

7) Most of your totems pulse instantly! Even if your tremor is already down if a teammate is feared use that global cooldown and drop another to break the fear immediately!

8) *ONLY VALID UNTIL 2.3* Grounding totem refreshes every 10 seconds. If it absorbs a spell and isn't killed 9 seconds after dropping it, you'll have the buff again at second #10! Make sure you don't already have the buff before trying to catch another mana burn!

9) BoP is purgable. You know this, just reminding you so you don't forget.

10) Use Earth Shock rank 1 to interrupt.... it'll save you a lot of mana!

11) Don't use heroism just to use heroism. Use it at key moments like when their healer is running away to LOS or drink.

12) Don't wait until you are OoM to use your Mana Tide totem, use it when they won't expect it and it'll still give you its max effect. They're less likely to kill it and you start the cooldown earlier!

If a healer is running away to drink or los hes going to not be able to heal anything until he gets back in los, trying to quickly burst down his teamate before he can come back into los is a good strat which is helped a lot by heroism.

As to the heroism comment: Just like Tyreke said, when they are running to LOS your ranged DPS or to drop combat to drink heroism adds extra pressure to make them not drink, or to kill the target as he does.

No, it won't. Also it has the chance to stun the pet giving you 3 seconds to run away.

I've also noticed that it doesn't always work on the pet, but, still something to try and see if it helps, very little mana for the chance at a huge opening in an opposing team.

Personally I do. I think it makes a difference, especially against the damn elementals.

Thanks, helps my shammy alt some, in his little 1700 teir, He has like 6k hp and 1000 +heal though, One thing I found out is the heroism thing is major, as well as mana tide. A few teams ( At least in this teir) that kill totems, might not even read what the totem does first, as well. My shammy and his rogue were against pally - warr, the warr was at 40%, and I earth shocked ( Rank 1, Naturally!) the pallies heal, popped heroism, and put down a stoneclaw. Lo and behold, the pally hit the stoneclaw totem, TWICE. And I got off an earth shock after she got out the second stun. ( I forgot to put mana tide in that wall of text, but it was an awesome fight =D)
