Mage Spec: 17/0/44

Fairly standard. The lower arcane points fluctuate a lot, and there can be a bit of variance in the 44 in frost, but with 2.3 removing DM magic, I expect the 44 to be very similar.

Arcane:

IAM: 5/5. I still like it even with the MSD proc nerf. It can be good for interrupting casts against some classes, finishing as they run around a corner, and of course is excellent dps when focus procs. The alternatives just aren't that great.

Clearcasting: 5/5 Must have if going 17 deep in arcane.

Arcane Fortitude: 1/1 Decent armor for 1 talent point.

Magic Absorption: 4/5 It is rare that I resist, but when I do it is nice to get mana back. Really, the rest of the talents are so mediocre that I just end up settling for this one. If you wear any portion of resist gear, it is a great talent.

Frost:

Not taking frost channeling is debatable because one of our biggest weaknesses is mana efficiency. The only potential flexible points could be moving 3 from piercing ice to frost channeling for better mana efficiency, but I find that I mainly go OOM because of drains. Frost channeling doesn't do anything to prevent that.

imo it's worth dropping 1 point from winter's chill for 1/3 frost channeling... 80% is as good as 100%

If the WC doesn't land and I'm already mid cast in my poly before I get the notification, the entire point of WC to protect my poly is now worthless. I'd rather be guarenteed that R1 frostbolt + poly = 3 guarenteed debuffs.

5% off my frost mana cost on the other hand will not be a game breaker. I'm thinking Deep Frost/Impact might be the only way to go next season due to WC becoming a requisite.

Personally, im 0/7/54 atm. I miss ICS, but i love the impact against melee or on any fireblast. I took the extra fire range so i can Frostbolt and then Fireblast right after it casts.
