We are about to rearrange our 5on5 team that has been stuck around 1800. We think about using the combo; MS warrior/warlock/hunter/disc priest/resto druid. The hunter will go with scorpid pet to avoid his mana sting to get cleansed and warlock and priest with improved mana drain/burn.
Is mana drain generaly a powerful tactic in 5on5? With this setup, what will be our toughest opponents? Who is best to focus draining first, a caster/hunter dps or one of their healers?

Our current 5v5 team tried this tactic at around 2k, we run priest, hunter, felguard warlock, ms warrior, and pally. its ok to let your preist and hunter keep stings/mana burns, on the opponents, but you lose to much when your warlock tries to join in with mana drain. I would suggest just letting your warlock do what he does and let your priest/hunter work on the draining.

Not sure if a disc priest + resto druid would work. You have one dispeller (minus the felhunter dispel). Your priest can easily be CC'ed while almost any druid is going to be targeted. With one of your healers being CC'ed and another running for his life and watching himself, that leaves the rest of you dying slowly to dots, other dps. You'll have to go help out your druid instead of mana drain. Priest and Pally work better because of two dispels. And a bubble and BoP, and BoF. You can probably afford to take the time to mana drain then.

My guildie runs a mana burn / outlast team. Their makeup is Resto Druid/MM Hunter/UA Lock/Holy Pirest/Holy Pally. They jump around 2200 rating every week, and to my surprise, their setup seems to be working. Note that this team's main goal is to drain the opposing team's mana and then eventually drop them one by one.
Although, they do have trouble against 4 caster dps gib teams. Then again, so do most teams.
