I play with a warrior and have been enjoying it quite a bit although when I browse through the armory it seems that mages that are near the top of 3s play with a Rogue over a Warrior, why is this? Is one better than the other?

Rogue's are better for CC/Burst which is what mages are good at.

Probably because warriors are better suited with a pally but it can work with a priest as well if you are good.

You'd be better off with a rogue.

Dump the priest for a paladin and you have a classic, balanced setup.

Here's the thing about Paladin versus Priest; people rarely go for the Paladin first, people often go for the Priest first. This means your DPS is free to perform their tasks.

I run;

Priest, Mage, Rogue
Priest, Mage, Hunter
Priest, Rogue, Hunter

Can easily attribute most losses to games where they target my DPS first rather than me. A healer getting beat on is still performing their task of maintaining the HP levels of their partners. A DPS getting beat on requires tons of heals and their output is very much compromised.

In a 2 DPS 3v3 team, you really want a healing class that screams "hey, come beat the shit out of me!" rather than "don't bother cause I'll just bubble/lolshift forms".

That's how I see it anyway.

I used to play with a warrior also, just because he was a good buddy and we pvped for fun. But then I started playing with a rogue and its a huge differance, the main thing is I think rogue's are not as high maintenance as a warrior, by that I mean they do not require constant attention, with CoS, vanish, sprint, evasion I do not have to constantly bomb heals if he is targeted and will allow me time to debuff/mana burn/etc.

For example, if I find myself taking hard cc or hit with a bad cs/fear I can call it out and a rogue can mitigate enough damage where it is not a big deal, a warrior however has no "outs" and would more then likely get burnt down.

Not to mention stun locks + chain debuff = dead anything most the time.

Harmann pretty much nailed it right on the head. I run Mage/Priest/War and 9 games out of 10 they go straight for the priest leaving us to burst down a dps and CS their healer. If they go for the mage however thinks get alot more dicey on our end and we really have to work for the win.

The rogue in this team has 3 roles really:

To DPS
To CC
To get the target to hold still for the mage and his pet

A warrior can really only do 1.5 of those things, and that's if mace stun is proccing a lot. Add to that the fact that warriors are higher maintainance than rogues - at least until the rogue runs out of cooldowns - and rogue is just the superior choice.

Healthing through rogue + mage dps sucks balls. I can't bop off wound poison, and i cant spend the global cooldowns on getting rid of it either. The team is tough to beat for that reason, if both of them are allowed to unload their burst (ie: we fail at controling or LoS'ing the mage, which is pretty tough since we play warrior hunter).

On that same note, once my 3v3 team breaks 2k using a hunter warrior pally im gonna get drunk as hell.

I played both setups as the Holy priest. I got gladiator from priest\rogue\mage and it seems to be a good combo that works well together. The only problem my group seemed to have is killing a 2 healer or healer\healer hybrid and a warrior. And I sort of remember us having trouble killing a druid in season one.

Season 2 I left my team to try out mage\warrior\priest. We did pretty well and got up to 1900 within the first couple days, we also had trouble killing warrior\2 healers untill we went for the warrior and killed him. Was a decent setup but we had to abandon it since the mage xferred and the only other good mages that I know were on my old 3v3 team lol.

I prefer having the rogue imo since I think when needed a rogue can have some extra survivability to save himself when you are un able to heal and the mage\rogue work well together.
