we face a bigger than normal decision in crit vs AP next patch if you plan to get the new lifegiving gem trinket. I know many warriors dont strictly try to favor one or the other and put in equal amounts of gems, but imo one really has to be better. heres what stats we would get from our gems/trinket assuming you A) match all color bonuses B) are wearing only pvp gear so have 3 red slots and 5 yellow ones C) have all 3 pvp gems but no BT gems cuz raiding is for faggots.

Favor AP
in red slots, 20 AP, two 8 strs
in yellow slots, 10 AP / 5 crit, 10 crit, three 4crit/4strs
80 AP trinket
total - 83 strength, 27 crit

Favor crit
in red slots, 20 AP, 10 AP/5 crit, 4crit/4str
in yellow slots, 10 crit, four 8 crits
40 crit trinket
total - 19 strength, 91 crit

assuming you are using a 3.6 speed gladiator weapon, AP man would hit 32.9 dmg harder on each swing before armor, whereas crit man would have 2.89% more crit. if you are meleeing for around 1100 pre-armor it is essentially 2.99% dps increase vs. 2.89% crit increase.

while the dps is slightly higher on AP i think after looking at how close it is I may go crit just to get a higher chance of lucky crit chains, which are really brutal to heal through. also id say crit is definitely better for a flurry build which I may try again

you can thank AfkV weekend for this useless mathcraft!

You shouldn't neglect AP and strive to bring it up to a decent level always, But with the math you provided hitting for an extra 30 damage every swing isn't going to kill anything. Crit streaks kill.

The extra rage from critts is also very nice, plus a flurry build makes critt sexy.

which reminds me.... how viable is flurry build for 2v2 and 3v3? My alt warrior is cookie cutter spec, but I rarely find myself out of zerker stances. Curious about testing out flurry.

well, you forgot, this is only the correct dmg increase if you have 0% crit without the trinket

due to resilience crit-dmg reduction and the standart %crit (should be around 33% with season2 gear), the attackpower trinket is much better overall

only reason some people could argument with, is the improved through flurry, but usually you have no flurry specced because you lose your important utilitys

i definitely think AP is the better stat if you already have high enough crit....high enough imho is like maybe 32% with mace spec in arms stance. Basically if you feel that you are already critting enough during S2 then you don't have to worry too much about it in S3 since resilience didn't go up

while we have 32 crit to start off with, against someone resilience capped we are down to 20%. so dont think of crit gems as taking you from 32 to 35, its 20 to 23, which i think is a more noticeable bonus.

As with all things, balance is key
I'll be going AP trinket though most likely
