Spell Hit, Spell Penetration & Resistances. Where do I begin, I guess I can make this shorter than it can be.

1) Will 5/5 Suppression benefit from Shadow Resist teams?

2) Can someone explain to me why and how Spell Hit is different than Spell Penetration?

I heard a long time ago that +hit (which is what Suppression is) transfers into spell penetration for binary spells. Regardless, spell pene is the best way to deal w/ shadow resist teams (particularly if you socket your last season's gear w/ spell pene gem).

It's a yes for binary spells (fear, initial DoT application, etc.) and a no for non-binary spells (DoT ticks, shadow bolt, etc).

I haven't heard anything about spell hit helping with magic resistance for binary spells, and I have a hard time believing it without someone having run numbers to test it. It could be true, but I don't buy it.

You do want 3% spell hit (not penetration) for PvP, which is roughly 36 spell hit rating. Anything more than that is wasted against targets level 70 or lower...which is everyone you'll fight in PvP.

Suppression is pretty useless for PvP because it only helps with your affliction spells. Since 3% is a trivial amount of hit to attain, it's not worth wasting talent points on something that you could get with gear easily and which would benefit all of your spells, non-affliction included, if you use gear for it instead of talents.

Summary version of differences between the two:

Spell hit is for level-based "full" resists. These are spells that will either be entirely resisted or not resisted at all, and it's based entirely on level and spell hit. You can benefit from up to 16% hit in PvE (because bosses are 3 levels above you), but in PvP you get nothing after 3%.

Spell penetration is for getting through shadow resistance, fire resistance, etc.

+hit also helps against priest/paladin fear resist talent as far as i know.

which means extra hit is not useless, but if possible probably better allocated to another stat.

im wondering whether soul siphon will be worth it next patch for non soullink warlocks

I used to have 5/5 suppression... now I have only 1/5 and everyone resist my coil and fears

The fear resists can only be attributed to priest and paladins.

The deathcoils are simply bad luck with your hit rating you have a 99% chance to land DC without suppression.

You are simply imagining things or you are having a streak of bad luck.

Note that these resists may also be due to shadow resist, as hit does not counter this, spell penetration does.
