Viable in PvP? Have not seen many mages with it.

I would pick it up if you are going full frost or frost with impact. If you are getting imp CS then your frost budget is pretty tight and you can probably get more effective talents.

I guess the question is, does it actually effect a warrior or rogue in the arena to a noticable difference?

It really depends on your team makeups I think. I do 2s, 3s, and 5s with a rogue so crip is always more powerful than my snares. I remember it being fairly noticeable, but yeah, with 44 in frost, there are too many talents more valuable than it.

Really depends on your team makeup and style. 2/3 in permafrost is GODLY imo. In 5s it's really situational most of the time, but as far as world PvP/BGs go, it's king.

a permafrosted cone of cold is the SLOWEST SNARE IN THE GAME

It is 60%, isn't crip poison 70%?

Crippling poison is a stronger snare.

Get it, what else are you going to put the points into?

The reason you get permafrost is to make your frost snare stronger than a warrior's hamstring. This allows you to 5-8 kite warriors, as well as keeping that warrior off your priest/shaman in 5v5.

Hope this helps.

not only for warrior/rogue but its good for any other class if they are trying to los you:P

I haven't made a frost build without it since probably 2005. Back when it was 2 seperate talents I used to get both.

Mobility is so so key at high levels of strategy, and this talent nerfs the other team's mobility into the ground.

Yes you can kite warriors with a 60% CoC vs 50% hamstring. But it also makes frostbolt 50%, meaning you are basically hamstringing everything you DPS. Frostbolt rank 1 becomes an 8-second hamstring which is very much worth casting in many situations. And it even affects ice armor, helping you passively kite melee without needing to use spells on them.

even if you use the 17/0/44, at least 2 points in permafrost are a must

With your build and team set up Iceweaver you don't need it for 3's. However for 5's it's quite useful. I've had permafrost for a long while and it makes kiting that much easier. Your job is to provide CC in most 5's matches and provide burst when called upon. Like I say though with your build there are much better talents to pick up since you are limiting your frost budget by getting Imp Counterspell. To each their own I suppose.

If you're 5/56 build you should have it. 17/44 then no. Also it's very common for mages to run with rogues so it's kind of pointless when you FF and rogue uses crippling.

The reason I like permafrost isn't just because it makes CoC a stronger snare but without permafrost and ice floes there is a gap between your CoC cooldown and the snare duration. permafrost makes it so you can keep someone snared with CoC indeffinetly. Also rank 1 frostbolt has a very short duration without perma.

Recently dropped 3 in AW to pick up 3 PF. Very helpful against any team especially DWW where cirppling gets abolished and more valuable than 3% dmg imo.
