Is anyone else feeling the same as me...
The tourny is going to be based on what team can counter the other team the best with their 6 slots. An amazing RMP won't be the winner of the tournament nor will the best Druid/Warrior/Rogue because WHENEVER these teams queue the other team is just going to run some annoying counter (Druid/Lock/Hunter for RMP and druid/mage/hunter for the double melee).
I don't know, MAYBE it's a good thing, MAYBE it will force people to run new setups that you don't see very often. Doubtful though, there is a reason RMP / DRW / DWarLock / DMageWar are such popular teams, because they win games more than they lose games and at the higher level - glad zone, these teams fight one another and it is at this point where "skill/luck/big crits/ect" determine the outcome.
Im not QQ'ing about the tourny server I am I just worried that the winner of the tournament will run two teams (as most teams will have two teams I assume, if not 3), a counter to RMP's (drain like teams) and a counter to Dbl Melee teams.
So, what does this mean for the best RMPs and Dbl Melee teams, should they still run their main team? It almost seems like a waste of 3 slots for the team. Why should we play RMP when we just know that when a team runs up against us for the 2nd time they will just run a counter. When I say counter, I mean counter btw. Sure, MAYBE RMP has a slim chance to win against a team that doesn't normally play Druid/Hunter/Lock, but an average (relative of course :)) Druid/Hunter/Lock can rape a good RMP. Likewise for the dbl melee, why waste a team to run D/(Rogue/Ret Pally/Sh)/(Rogue/Warrior) when after you win your first game and Q again you will be faced up against Druid/Hunter/Mage!
It does go both ways, as it always does. Counters to counters will be made and then the outher team will try to counter ect ect.... You get the point.
I didn't want the Arena Server to be based on the best counter, but the best team and it seems at the end of the tournament you won't have the best team. At the end of the tournament you will have the team that picked the best 6 slots to comprise counters.

The thing is, its limited to three players once you get to the regionals. So those three players will need to be able to run two comps at glad level. I think it would be fair to say they deserve to win at that point.
I'm more worried that the tournament will be a disaster because they can't get the queues under control.

It's circular logic. If everyone is going to try to counter RMP and double melee, nobody will be running RMP and double melee. System fixes itself.

Edit: @ Tyv - I take it you are running RMP, what else you going to run? We are thinking of running a Druid/Rogue/Warrior to counter our RMP counters :P

I think that is partly my point. We are going to stop playing all these amazing teams that obviously do very well and are basicaly the foundation of arena. The Arena server will have it's own top teams and in a way be almost seperate from "live" arena.

I'm still not sure on the second lineup as I haven't quite nailed down which RMP team I am going to play with. Most likely we will either try to run double melee or a 2.5 dps variant depending on what classes we end up being able to pick up the fastest.
RMP is nice in the sense that you could probably go shadow, Pom Pyro, and Mutilate and you won't be quite as strongly countered by double healer, drain, or double melee. That is one of my hopes at least. I haven't really practiced because the 5 minute queues are really turning me away =/

I assume when it gets to the last two weeks there will be a lot of people playing all the time and counter comping won't be as easy as it is on live when there is only a few teams qing on your bg.

Ya, you may be right on this. My biggest problem is I play 90% of the time during the day so often play the same team 5x before we eventually push them out of our braket :P
Another question... what are the numbers on the tourny server? How many people are actually playing?

biggest problem I see is that some experience heavy lags on the tourney server (and only on this server). our warrior happens to be one of them.

haha, it's funny.... i'd like a team like this (classic melee/caster/healer) to win the tournament as well. But I don't see many warlock teams getting very far with all of the double melee teams.

Ya, there's a ton of double melee around. Lots of RMP, too, but they're not really a problem for us (Druid/Hunter/Lock). Hopefully we'll figure it out soon (first time playing with our Hunter :P). Gonna try rolling Horde for Orc stun resist and Blood Frenzy trick to see how that works.

Lock/War/Paladin just rape RWD.
BoF on warr, BoP on lock, Paly bubbles the match just became warr/lock/paladin vs a druid. there is almost nothing you can do in those 10 seconds to help your druid out. Vanish/cs on warr, disarm warr,cyclone on the lock. but it doesnt allways turn outh this easy. vanish bugs, disarm gets parried, duid gets CSed. druids drop fast nowadays.

if you leave the warlock to peel warrior the lock'll start pumping out unmanagable damage too

Ice, we destroy double melee/druid. RMP is our problem, and it's a big one, since 30%+ of our opponents so far are RMP.
aimlessgun, how do you guys do against war/lock/druid(specifically rhaegyn/hafu/glickz)?
we do pretty well against them on live, but random pve gear on the druid+orc warlock+endless rage really fucks our day up.

We've done well against all of the ones we've played, but havn't hit those guys yet, so I dunno about the relative quality of our opposition.

The winning team will be one where all 3 members can play 2-3 classes at gladiator level.
That's how pandemic always wins....They have almost every class covered with just 3 people.

Honestly i think the team who will win will be the one to counter comp all the RMP and WRD up till the top 20 lets say, thats when specific class ability will dictate the top team. With the pve gear available on the realm double melee can stomp on clothies, however rmp destroys them. Once teams pass all the countercomping and such, it will be like getting to the top of live realms, where you actually have to outplay your opponents rather then simply "out class" them so to speak

most double melee are bad, even if those playing the team are good, because all they do is just zerg the lock.
In 3s I run lock / druid / rogue on my druid at 2200, vs a double melee team we trade our lock for their druid. It ends well.
