Reputation System: Rating Posts

We have enabled the reputation system in an attempt to help make the best information as easily accessible as possible and weed out players who constantly give bad advice. Here is how it works.

http://www.arenajunkies.com/images/darkbuttons/reputation.gif - This image should be in the upper right hand side of every post. When you click on it, it should pop open a menu allowing you to rate the post up or down and optionally leave a comment. We will keep an eye on posts that are rated down and users that have many negative posts. On the positive side, we will come up with something to show for users who are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

We haven't decided yet how we want to display this information because we want to see how well it works first after a few days. If it seems to be helping, we will keep it enabled. Please do not attempt to abuse it, we will take action against anyone who is spam down rating people for no good reason.

http://www.arenajunkies.com/images/darkbuttons/report.gif - This image should also be in the top right corner. By clicking this, it will allow you to report a post for sticky, or for deletion. Please use the report button to let us know if people are being unnecessarily hostile or trolling instead of replying to their baiting. Reported posts are handled very quickly with the appropriate actions taken against the user.

or like the capping indicators in EoTS.. halfway to start and can be pushed either way.

I noticed this, I find it slightly annoying that someone rated me down (I assume) because I started with 8 rating points when I clicked on it, and now it says I have 5 rating points, despite having a lot of detailed helpful posts :p

Is there a way to see what post you were rated down for?

Offhand I'd assume someone negatively rated me because I suggested that racials were fine and weak ones needed to be boosted.

Which is why it currently is displayed. Given time, theoretically it will balance itself out and we will see if it was helpful or worthless :P

I rarely post anywhere besides the rant room and I looked and I'm at 7 rep points. I think people are just going through and down ranking people.

They aren't, and if they are, they will be banned. Simple as that. Just because you haven't posted recently doesn't mean your other 346 posts aren't seen.

I can see people throwing around many more -rep then +rep mods.

Yeah, and if thats the case it just punishes people who are active which is something we don't watch. We are going to give it a little longer to see how it balances out.

Can we have some sort of screen in the User CP to show all posts that have received reputation/comments?

Currently the only way I can find to view reputation is by clicking on the scales and seeing the javascript pop up saying I have X reputation points.

It was intentionally hidden for now so that people don't get frustrated, especially if we end up removing it. The fact that clicking on the scales shows it to you was just a place I forgot to disable it :(
