There is no hit "cap", but the rule of thumb is 5%. There are talents and skills that effect your hit % though so going over 80 hit is not hurting you in anyway (assuming you aren't giving up other stats to get the hit).
s3 gear: 36 (helm/chest/legs), 16 (helm enchant), 15 (2hander) = 67 total hit
Surefooted on boots for another 10 hit and you are pretty much golden. If you don't like the surefooted and ap/runspeed meta gem combo then you will need to use a pve ring.
79 hit rating
Winner -- almost. There is no hit cap. With even having 1293810923821 hit rating, there is always a chance for you to miss. Granted, the chance I believe is .01%, it always exists on the tables. That said, for all intensive purposes, 79 hit rating is where you want to be to "never" miss using a 2 hander. The reason some people are at 78 is because thats what their gear gives them, and they really dont want to add some other item that gives them +10 hit rating, and be over the cap, and essentially "wasting" stat points.

Not nearly as confusing as the posts about you win trading against a dummy team to get your ratings. Thanks though.

eh, 77 of em were legit ;p burn me on a stake, why dontcha
i just don't understand why you start off by saying that there is no hit cap, then contradict yourself. yes, we understand that you can stack hit. yes, we understand that it doesn't make a difference after a point, and is effectively 'soft capped,' a waste at that point...why do you need to post about semantics?

Haha, I like my toast burned, baby.
Anyways, I agree with Olaf. 79 is the general rule of thumb for hit rating, but breaking yourself to match that number exactly, or greatly sacrificing your stats just to end up above and beyond that simply isn't worth it, for the aforementioned reasons.
I thought there was a hit cap for melee? I know you can never achieve 100% hit with spells, but unless it's a mage/other class with -% to be hit talent, I thought you could cap?

79 hit rating is all you need for pvp. more is basically useless, so you're effectively 'capped' at 79.

The reason I went into the details the first time is because I want people to know the truth. 79 isnt the hit cap. 79 is the soft hit cap against level 70 opponents (aka Arenas). Any points over 79 are useless because they dont actually reduce your chance to miss, but 79 doesnt mean you have a 0% miss rate. Thats what a cap would imply, and its not the truth.
Sorry if understanding mechanics of the game are too complicated, but its the truth. Dont want to know it? Dont read my posts!

Scorpid sting and insect swarm just to name a few pvp talents/spells that reduce your hit below 5%. Going over 79 is not detrimental.

It is compared to the extra survivability or damage you could have instead, when it doesn't help you in the vast majority of fights.

I never said it wasn't, but some pve items provide a lot more +hit and offense than full pvp. I never said give up extra survivability or damage, don't misconstrue my posts just so you can try and "point" out flaws (that seems to be a trend in your responses). Tsunami Talisman, red belt of battle, and a whole slew of top end rings just to name a few common slots that warriors utilize pve gear.
You can quite easily go over 80 hit while increasing your damage. Warriors don't need to stack res to 400+.
