View Full Version : Druid/Lock VS. Mage/Rogue
Twisty

So I'm running mage/rogue... This setup makes me cry.
I realize we probably shouldn't win... but.. What shoud we do?
Assuming everything works perfectly, Besides hoping the lock's mom shuts off his PC's power with the vacuum cleaner, what should our plan be?

Make sure you poly the warlock so he doesn't deathcoil / fear you or something; you need to save counterspell so the druid can't NS.
When the druid gets out of the first chain of stunlocks, if you're out of frostnovas, cold snap and summon a new pet; that helps a lot.
You might want to save blind for the druid; it usually gives you enough time to kill him if you time it right.

I run this setup and after getting to 2251 on BG6, me and my rogue decided that we're done playing this setup. We hope it's high enough for glad.
Here is why you should never, EVER win against a good druid lock as mage rogue.
1) Lock vs. Mage. Lock wins. This means that as soon as the gates open, if the warlock and the mage go at it, there is a high chance that the rogue will have to pop out of stealth to help out the mage and switch to the druid, thus losing his opener, unless he vanishes and reopens. Same thing goes if the mage and lock dance around waiting for the stealth detection. A lock can expose himself to get the debuff and the mage can't really stop him and if he tries, he's going to eat a round of DoTs.
In short, chances are the rogue will have to pop out of stealth before the druid.
2) Even if your rogue walks over the druid and opens up on him, he needs your help to stay on top of the druid. 1 deathcoil from the lock, Bash from the druid, 1 cyclone....is all it takes for that druid to run the f*** away from you and you'll never catch him again before either the mage or rogue dies from dots.
3) Sheeping the warlock ? A good lock will eat the first sheep, devour magic (if they are unlucky and eat the detect magic then they will trinket). Sheep goes down to 5 seconds. The lock can decide to trinket the sheep or just sit through it: there isn't enough time to burst the druid, as a smart lock with spell lock your frostbolt you are launching in preparation of your shatter combo. Sheep breaks. Only viable CC left is for the rogue to come and blind the lock, assuming his trinket is down, which means he probably gets off the druid ( a smart druid will be about 30 yards from his lock partner).
In the end, the rogue and I managed to blow everything on druids to kill them. However, with block down, cloak down and no other cooldowns and both of us at 50% health...the lock would often 2 v 1 us.
Game over. Lock wins.

I cried too when I ran with a rogue. In fact, 2v2 in general make me sad.

Control the Lock as best as you can, while trying to down the druid. Having the starting sap on the lock is huge against this set up. If you can force the trinket pop on that you have a really good chance at beating them. Otherwise you are really fighting an even more uphill battle. Druid+Lock shouldn't lose to you under normal circumstances though.
imp cs helps too, Hard to shut down a druid without it i think.

die, is a good way :/
I have found the mage/ rogue combo actually very effective against all types of warlock druid combos, please try these strats and I can promise you will have no problem winning.
You have two options of strats depending on your preferred play style. You can use this strat \/
If the lock is demo(Fel Hunter), this will usually work--
-Have the rogue open on the warlock pet
-When the pet is being killed, sheep than spellsteal spam the warlock (Trust me on this)
-If the druid pops out and decides to heal the pet, have the rouge blind the druid (He will not have abolish poison and if he uses trinket, it will just make it easier to kill him)
-If the druid is in a position where he can heal the pet, use a counter-spell on him.
-When the pet is dead have your rogue proceed to kill the druid.
-The warlock will than try to use his Fel-domination, spell steal it!
-Without the pet, the warlock is sheepable and if you start to die, you or your partener can regen at any time. :>
(This strat seems very time consuming, but when performed right is very quick and effective)
Other Strat \/ (I prefer this strat because my partner is mutilate)
-Have the rogue stealth and look for the duid, use your first pet and start to damage the lock, thus forcing the druid out of stealth.
-When the druid is out, you should have winterchills and such on the lock, making it harder for his puppy to dispell the sheep.
-Play very agressive, use every cooldown necessary to lock the druid and kill him.
(If you feel you and your partener are going to die, plan a time where you iceblock, and he can eat/bandage.)
Hope this helps. If you have any questions you can hit me up ingame.

Waste as much time mounted as you can while Rogue looks for Druid. If Warlock gets on you do your best to stay alive while being offensive at the same time w/o using your cds. Once the Druid comes out blow everything you have on him.

I have a very high win % (almost 100%) against druid/lock teams where my rogue found the druid. It's pretty easy to drop a druid if they don't have a chance to stack up lifebloom and rejuv.
You will lose to good lock/druid teams because the lock will rush you at the starting and 1v1. Your rogue will have to open on the lock so you don't die...and then when the druid pops up to heal, he has plenty of time to throw a preemptive abolish and his HoTs on before you're on him.
It's almost certainly a waste of time to polymorph the lock. If he's using devour on you, go for it; but not all locks are that retarded.
One strategy that seems to work okay is starting on the lock until he uses his PvP trinket (He'll probably use it on kidney shot). And then switching to the druid and sheeping the lock. Again, this only works if the lock has devour on autocast and is devouring your buffs. You can blind him without worrying about abolish post 2.3.
Only chance is really sapping the lock and having your rogue open on the druid. I play with a human rogue so most of the time we can get ourselves in this situation. Then its a matter of how good a job I do of keeping the warlock from disrupting our dps. My rogue partner has found using blind on the druid to catch up to him after many of his cds are used effective, however in 2.3 blinding the lock with pvp trinket down might be the better option. Unfortunately if the lock is smart, all he really has to do is focus on shutting you down between spell/fear/dc and your rogue won't be able to solo blow up the druid.

I LOS until the lock comes in; when he does, we DPS him together until the druid comes out. At this point, my rogue uses rocketboots and chases the druid and gouges, and I CC the lock and move to the druid during gouge.
We kill the druid; the lock can't do anything, especially now that he gets blinded and it can't be dispelled anymore.
Before now we couldn't deal with this combo; blind got dispelled every time.
Make sure you DPS the lock first so you can stack Winter's Chill on him; you'll need it or else he'll eat your polymorph.
