I'm thinking about developing a new poker site.
I think I'll make it all in the browser ( no desktop clients ).

Do you guys think it is worth the time and effort?

What don't you like about most clients/sites or what would you really want to be implemented in a new one?

I am prepared to make some moderate investments but other than bonuses I'd like to get your ideas on features other sites/clients lack.

I hate when they dont have auto top off / auto re-buy. A good waiting last. Non laggy junk software. UB jumps from 1c/2c right to 5c/10c, I also hated the shit out of this when i first started grinding a bankroll. Once you reach a certain VIP status level you should be able to create your own cash game like they have on FTP with a reserved seat for you. Make sure tracking software is allowed. all i have for now, im sure i could come up with more. I hope you have some type of trusted gaming comission that could run this. Its not like any person with programming skills can go and make a poker site.

Well with school and other projects I estimate I might finish it in an year or so. I don't see why I would need a gaming commission for it.

Thx for the input btw.

PokerStars is licensed by the Canadian Kahnawake Gaming Comission, Full Tilt Poker and Full Tilt Software are licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Comission in Canada. and im pretty sure UB/AP are ran by the same exact one also. If you dont have some type of respected gaming comission / bank type person to handle literally thousands of dollars, it will go no where.

Well it will be proffesional, it will be registered by law and if you get fucked you can easily file a lawsuit and make me go to prison + get more money than you originally put in. Anyway I don't expect ppl to just come running in with thousands of dollars on a new site, trust must be earned and I will try and do just that.

that's an extremely ambitious project, good luck! as for what features to include, I would suggest playing a little bit on some of the popular sites now and see what they all have

These poker sites arent "registered" by law. Atleast in the united states. We really cant do anything because we cant take them to court/sue them since they're not in america. There was a huge poker scandal where one of the owners of absolute poker / ultimate bet made a super user account and he could see other users cards. well, he got busted and the guy was supposedly fired. Those people who got cheated were not able to do anything about it, they couldnt even sue AP/UB. They were down hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I'm almost positive you also need some type of license for making a gambling site.

I cannot say that I have any knowledge of the legals involved since I basically got the idea 2 hours ago but I will try and make it as so anyone can sue me if they were cheated =).

Is it naive to be fair?

I dont think you understand just how much hard work, money, and luck you'll need to pull of a gaming site that more than 100 people will play on at any time.

Perhaps if you had 5-6 investors with experience managing/creating/overseeing a similar site you might have a chance.

Alone? No way.

Ya I'm pretty sure you need alot of capital to start with (investors)

You need capital just for bonuses and there are more ways of attracting new ppl than bonuses.

Good table filtering like pokerstars, auto-rebuy/topoff, betting sliders, timebanks. Actually just copy pokerstars interface as closely as possible, I think it's widely agreed upon as the best interface.

lol I don't think you know much about this... You wouldn't need capital to offer bonuses, they're just temporary forms of rakeback. ie: you use a portion of the money you get paid from rake to pay out promised bonuses.

Setting up a poker site is probably a multi-million dollar investment if you want to be U.S friendly, maybe a bit less if Euro based.

You need capital to buy servers, advertise, I could go on and on but you get the idea ^_^

Good luck. But I really think you are being very naive as someone has already posted. Its not about being fair, its about how much ******* work you have to do to get this thing off the ground, let alone profitable.
