As there doesn't appear to be a thread like this already, I figured I'd make one. As someone who has never played DoTA, I was wondering if someone could explain/link me what to do on HoN. I'm reluctant to join a game and have no idea what to do.

its pretty complex to explain in words, the objective of the game is to destroy the enemies main building, but to do this you basically kill creeps/npcs for gold to get items to help you kill enemy players / push their base.. just play it

Alright, so I kind of get it after a couple of matches. Can someone explain the shop though? I'm kind of lost there.

Umm, the shop is where you purchase items (obviously). However, certain key components won't be available to you at your home shop, but instead you'll have to travel to the secret shop (white squares on the map) to get the items required to complete a midgame or lategame item.

Okay, that helps. What are some good starter heroes?

Tbh, I don't really see anything as a "starter" hero. Sure, some heroes are easier to play, but I think if you've played WoW at a decent level then you'll catch on to how to use 4 abilities very quickly. It's more of do you know what items to use on this hero and which abilities should you get first type of deal.

But there's still a lot you have to learn to do such as using the minimap, knowing when to push and engage, how/when to go gank, denying and last hitting, etc. I think after you get the hang of the game in general, you'll be able to play any hero and you won't be limited or even have a "best" hero that you always play on.

On second thought, you might want to avoid heroes such as behemoth, valkyrie, soulstealer, and devourer because I really don't see them as noob friendly.

Yeah, I've been playing as the spider person and I'm liking it a lot. Thanks for your help!

What's a good caster hero? The spider one seems to be a bit weak, but maybe I'm just playing it wrong. Can't web kite predators/swiftblades so I always die to them :(.

Idk, I think arachna is sometimes overrated. It's hard to farm her as a carry and you have to get gold mostly by last hitting or ganking. But I think her early game is underrated. So easy to harass players and get quick ganks when no one can escape you after level 6.

Imo some easy "starter" heroes I guess...
Agi: Arachna, Swiftblade
Int: Thunderbringer, Pyromancer
Str: Pebbles, Pestilence

But like they said. Once you get used to the general game play, everything isn't that bad.

Arachna's without a doubt one of the most ridiculously overpowered heroes ever.
Stick with her and you'll soon get scores of like 16/0/10.

HoN is EXACTLY like dota. The heroes are pretty much the same, items, are the same. Shops work the same.

The only difference is the graphics.

Like dota? You'll like HoN
